Sugilite is a rare and complex cyclosilicate mineral, renowned for its striking purple hues. First discovered in 1944 by Japanese petrologist Ken-ichi Sugi, it has become a highly sought-after material in the gemstone and crystal market, often compared to high-grade lavender jade.
Unlike many transparent crystals, sugilite is typically translucent to opaque, with a waxy to vitreous (glass-like) luster.
